Technology in golf subscription:

Technology constantly opens new possibilities for the spectators. The following text shows a summary of what is changing for the golf fan:

Accessibility: The internet has made the world smaller and so it also helps to improve the accessibility for golf fans around the world. Everything you need is an internet connection and then you can view all the golf tournaments on so called "internet streams" online. There are often free options that where the quality is sometime bad. But it also exist the possibility to pay a monthly subscription fee for some pages in the internet, where the quality is guaranteed to be good.

Quality: Quality is improved through technology. Modern technic allows a much better quality and experience for the spectator on the TV screen. More cameras, different angles and new technologies guarantee an improved TV subscription.

Options: Nowadays people can select between different commentators or angles. Additionally they also can choose their favorite player and follow him on the entire tournament. An information channel also exists to see the info of all players. If you miss a tournament or you switch the TV on too late, you can also start the subscription later.

User interaction: The internet allows also that the spectator does not only views the golf tournament, it also enhances interactions between the different golf fans. People "meet" in the internet, mostly on the subscription pages and can chat about what they see on TV. This can be also used for associations or for the organizers of tournament to get feedback and to see what people like and what they would like to have improved.

Technology of TV's: Modern TV's constantly record whatever you see. If someone wants to see a certain put or a drive again, he can pause and see it again in slow motion. If he continues again, the subscription starts again from where you paused it.

  1. I completely agree with the fact that technology is providing various options for the fans to interact with the game and vice-versa. With the use of internet and other tools, sports organisers can measure the viewership (who is watching the game, where and when) in real time.

The only concern with this in my opinion is piracy and security. I don't have to be a computer genius to find a free streaming of possibly any sport. This has existed since a long time now, and I haven't witnessed any strict action against it.

Would the sport organisations be able to restrict any kind of free illegal streaming? Or will they themselves broadcast the games for free (like IPL)?

  2. I personally think, that the free streaming (or similar things) will always exist and a legal channels will always loose a percentage of viewers. But I also think that the trend is going back and that people are more concerned about the quality of what they see. I only use these programs, when I wouldn't have the chance to see this match on legal TV. E.g. when I am in Spain and want to watch German Bundesliga - the only way is via such a stream...
